Welcome to the first issue of Weight Control Strategies.

By admin | December 22, 2007

Hello and welcome!

Please note that this site is in the process of being developed and should begin to look more professional soon.

I hope that this will be the beginning of a perfectly slimming relationship. That is, unless you actually wish to put on weight. We can also discuss how this can be achieved without the “love handles.”

:)

There was a time in my life, many years ago, when I could eat anything that I liked, and as much as I liked, and not put on any weight. As I got older though, things changed and I began to stack on weight.

I used to joke and say that my tape worm died. However, I am sure that I have never had any tape worms.

Being overweight is getting to epidemic proportions nowadays and obesity is causing much concern around the world. Not only does it cause problems with people’s self esteem because they do not look as good as they would like, it can also have an adverse effect on their health. Problems with heart disease resulting from the extra work that the heart has to do, hardening of the arteries, diabetes type 2, and depression because of the lowered self esteem complicate the issue.

What is the main cause of this problem? I believe that it is a result of our modern living conditions with so many labor saving devices and refined foods contributing quite a lot to the problem. Because we are not normally required to do much physical work like our parents and grandparents did we do not burn off the extra calories that we consume over and above our nutritional requirements. In other words we get things too easy and eat refined food in copious quantities.

The good news is that we can lead a happier, fitter and healthier life – if we REALLY wish to put in the effort. By effort, I mean adopting sensible eating habits and exercising more. I know because I have learned to do so and it does make you feel good. If I can do it at 65 years of age, others can do it too.

Anyhow, I shall be writing a lot of interesting, inspirational and educational material as soon as I can. Before I do though, I need to complete a book about “beating your depression” as this is another hobby horse of mine. I believe that depression and weight control problems are, at times, inter-related. Some people become depressed because they are overweight and others become overweight because they are depressed and seek comfort in eating unnecessarily. I have learned to beat my depression without taking drugs that I, and many professional health workers, feel can cause more harm than good.

You can see a photo of me and view some of my work at http://beatyourdepression.com/blog.

I hope to be able to put more work in on this blog fairly soon because there really is a need for somewhere where people can get information and encouragement to overcome this problem. I shall make an even more concerted effort to work here sooner if I get enough requests via the comments that you can leave below.

I the meantime, have a pleasant Christmas and a Happy New Year. Eat sensibly, and do not over indulge. Remember, that you can even stack on the pounds, or kilos, by drinking soft drinks or sodas laden with sugar, or by drinking alcohol to excess.

Later, I shall share with you how you can lose weight without cutting out all of your favorite foods [or drinks]. It is the 90% and 10% rule. You will like this!

In parting, I shall leave you with some “food for thought” [pun intended].

Exercise, along with drinking more water than we do, is [not surprisingly] one of the best ways to metabolize the food that we consume. Walking is as good as any form of exercise. You do not need to do heavy gym work.

Did you know that you need to walk:-

We will discuss ways of increasing your walking in the next article and reasons why diets do not work and can actually cause you to put on weight in a subsequent article. Sounds interesting? Well bookmark this page and check it out occasionally.

Regards, John Stephens
